Connected Joins in Graphs

چکیده
A join in a graph is a set F of edges such that for every circuit C, |C ∩ F | ≤ |C \ F |. We study the problem of finding a connected join covering a given subset of vertices of the graph, that is a Steiner tree which is a join at the same time. This turns out to contain the question of finding a T -join of minimum cardinality (or weight) which is, in addition, connected. This last problem is mentioned to be open in a survey of Frank [7], and is motivated by its link to integral packings of T -cuts: if a minimum T -join F is connected, then there exists an integral packing of T -cuts of cardinality |F |. The problems we deal with are closely related to some known NPcomplete problems: deciding the existence of a connected T -join; finding the minimum cardinality of a connected T -join; the Steiner tree problem; subgraph isomorphism. We also explore some of these connections.

From Connected Frequent Graphs to Unconnected Frequent Graphs
We present the UFC (Unconnected From Connected) algorithm which discovers both connected and disconnected frequent graphs. It discovers connected frequent graphs by means of any existing graph mining algorithm and then joins these graphs with each other creating unconnected frequent graphs with increasing number of connected components. We compare our method with previously proposed UGM algorit...
متن کاملEdge-cuts in Graphs
In an earlier paper [3], we studied cycles in graphs that intersect all edge-cuts of prescribed sizes. Passing to a more general setting, we examine the existence of T -joins in grafts that intersect all edge-cuts whose size is in a given set A ⊆ {1, 2, 3}. In particular, we characterize all the contractionminimal grafts admitting no T -joins that intersect all edge-cuts of size 1 and 2. We als...

متن کاملMatching Integral Graphs of Small Order
In this paper, we study matching integral graphs of small order. A graph is called matching integral if the zeros of its matching polynomial are all integers. Matching integral graphs were first studied by Akbari, Khalashi, etc. They characterized all traceable graphs which are matching integral. They studied matching integral regular graphs. Furthermore, it has been shown that there is no matc...
متن کامل$T$-Joins in Infinite Graphs
We characterize the class of infinite connected graphs G for which there exists a T -join for any choice of an infinite T ⊆ V (G). We also show that the following well-known fact remains true in the infinite case. If G is connected and does not contain a T -join, then it will if we either remove an arbitrary vertex from T or add any new vertex to T .
متن کاملThe maximal total irregularity of some connected graphs
The total irregularity of a graph G is defined as 〖irr〗_t (G)=1/2 ∑_(u,v∈V(G))▒〖|d_u-d_v |〗, where d_u denotes the degree of a vertex u∈V(G). In this paper by using the Gini index, we obtain the ordering of the total irregularity index for some classes of connected graphs, with the same number of vertices.
